Phuket Old Town
In the historic heart of Phuket, discover how China, Malaysia and European settlers
helped shape the culture, architecture and fortunes of the island over a century ago.
A small warren of streets lined with wonderfully restored colorful Chinese shop-houses are now
home to boutique shops, coffee shops and small restaurants and are the perfect place
to while away few hours enjoying this exquisite blend of gentrification meets preservation.
Uncover stunning examples of colonial-era Sino-portuguese architecture such as
[Baan Chinpracha House], the [Thai Hua Museum] and [Perenacan Museum]
or hidden away Chinese shrines such as the [Shrine of the Serene Light] that would have once been
the private place of worship for turn of the century Chinese merchants and tin mining magnates.
Also look out for vibrant street art that was commissioned in 2015 when Phuket was
awarded the UNESCO Creative city of Gastronomy, in recognition of the melting
pot of influences on Phuket’s culture and food scene. Enjoy a celebration of local food
& culture featuring internationally renowned Thai artist ALEX FACE, and his signature
character ‘Mardi’, along with work by other talented local artists.
It will take approximately 50-minutes to drive to Phuket Old Town which is located in the small sub-district of Chalong and the price of a taxi is THB 1,500 per way. A Private taxi can also be booked for a minimum charge of THB 3,000 for three hours, which is adequate time to visit Phuket Old Town.
